Fibroid Embolization Recommended by ACOG
The American College of Gynecology (ACOG) has recommened Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) as a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for women with symptoms due to fibroids.
These practice guidelines for Gynecologistsdiscusses all treatment options for women with fibroid disease. The treatments ranged from hysterectomy to oral hormone pills. The final recommendation was for women to be offered UFE as an option if they did not want to undergo surgery or hysterectomy.
Despite these strong recommendations many women still get offered hysterectomy as their only treatment option. However, there ARE other options. UFE can be an excellent alternative for women who suffer from symptoms assiciated with fibroids.
