Laparoscopic myomectomy: an alternative approach to tackling submucous fibroids?
Abstract
Study Objective
To evaluate the differences in peri-operative outcomes and immediate complication rates between laparoscopic myomectomy for submucous fibroids and laparoscopic myomectomy for fibroids in other locations.
Patients
Three hundred fifty patients with symptomatic uterine fibroids underwent laparoscopic myomectomy. Thirty-three of these were performed for submucous fibroids (group 1), three hundred seventeen were for fibroids in other uterine locations (group 2).
Conclusion
Laparoscopic myomectomy for submucous fibroids has similar peri-operative outcomes and immediate complications to laparoscopic myomectomy for other fibroids and can be considered for large or type 2 submucous fibroids.
